Every newborn photo session is unique. Chandler’s session is the perfect example of how meaningful it can be for a family. Ashanti and Bianca’s road to motherhood was a long one. When their rainbow baby Chandler was born, they decided to commemorate her birth with newborn photos. Little Chandler was so easygoing (I mean, sleepy!) that we were able to take precious portraits and do a tribute to her big sister Charlie.
Chandler’s family drove in from Lafayette to join me at my Morgan City studio. The drive was a bit over an hour, but it was well worth it. For this session, Ashanti and Bianca requested cream, pink, and teal colors. The soft tones made Chandler’s cheeks glow in the even studio lighting.
To compliment the colors for Chandler’s session, we chose a number of bonnets and headbands. I keep over 100 naturally-inspired headpieces in my studio to keep things easy for families while giving them lots of options.
Chandler slept through most of the session. She was still so expressive. She stretched her arms and looked content. Snuggled in the wicker basket, Chandler looked like she was smiling! Her little hand poking out of the cream swaddle looks so sweet.
After Chandler’s newborn photo session, Ashanti and Bianca told me that their favorite part of the experience was that they got to sit back and relax. You might be surprised by how many parents say the exact same thing! I call newborn sessions at my studio a boutique experience partly because I take as much as possible off parents’ plates while they’re here. What new parent couldn’t use a little rest?
Even though a newborn photo session is about capturing a baby in their first days, it also gives us a chance to document family connections. Chandler’s session gave us a chance to honor her connections with her big sister and her parents. I have no doubt that they’ll look back on these photos lovingly for years to come. Maybe newborn photos will become a new family tradition!
As I mentioned before, Ashanti and Bianca’s journey to motherhood was difficult. After speaking to Bianca over the phone, I knew that they wanted to pay tribute to their first baby, Charlie, in some way. I had set up a special rainbow baby photo in her memory. I used flowers to create a rainbow over Chandler. The image is so moving because it shows us Chandler’s connection to her big sister and reminds us that Charlie will always have a place in her parents’ hearts. Ashanti and Bianca loved the photo so much that they ordered wall art with it afterward.
Chandler slept through so much of this newborn photo session, but she woke up right before the parent photos. I love her bright-eyed expression. When it came time for parent photos, Chandler sucked her thumb peacefully. Bianca and Ashanti’s expressions are so tender. You can see how much love little Chandler’s parents have for her.
